As most of our readers know, there are a number of residential high-rise new construction projects currently underway in Center City?s Market West. ?But for those that don?t have access to viewing these projects being built first hand, you are in luck ? we do. ?Every now and then, we have been checking in on their progress and updating them when they reach certain milestones. ?The time has once again come to provide some insight. ?First up: 2040 Market.
The building has undergone massive renovations over the past few months, with the?addition?of 8 stories to the original AAA building along Market Street as well as two 13-story wings added to the back. ?As you can see in the image above, the two wings officially topped out at their final height this week, giving us a clear understanding of how massive this structure is and how the 275 apartments are going to fit into the space.
Also of noteworthy news, shown in the image above, construction has started on enclosing the ground floor retail spaces along Market, signifying some commercial activity might be soon to follow. ? These improvements help solidify the building?s street wall and gives it a little more?presence?from a pedestrian?s point-of-?view.
Next up: 2116 Chestnut Street.
As you can see in the image above, the structure?s glass curtain wall is now being installed, giving us an understanding of exactly what this building will look like and how closely it will resemble the renderings. ?And by the looks of things, the building is rising ever faster into the air, sitting at about 17 stories by our estimation. This means the building is currently halfway to reaching its final height (34 stories).
From the street, the building really has a strong presence and looms a bit over the right of way. ?Once residents move in and the commercial spaces fill up, this is sure to inject some serious vitality to this corner of Center City.
One quick question. ?Is anyone out there aware of what is going to be built on the Sansom Street side of this development? ?Judging by the picture above, they are currently using the space for staging purposes; perhaps this space is a part of another phase to the project? ?If anyone has any information, please pass it along. ?As always, we greatly appreciate it.
