Rookie Oz spinner Agar in line to make dream debut against India in Chennai Test

Australian News.Net Saturday 16th February, 2013

The West Australian spinner, who made his first-class debut less than a month ago, went on tour as a net bowler while players were still arriving in Chennai following commitments with the one-day series at home against the West Indies, News.com.au reports.

However Agar's impressive performance in taking 1-27 off eight overs in the two-day match against the India Board XI this week convinced selectors to keep the teenager in the squad and give him every chance to cap a fairytale rise to international cricket with selection for the opening Test in Chennai, the paper said.

Captain and selector Michael Clarke said Agar bowled really well in the two-day game, adding everyone knows he's very talented and he has had success for Western Australia too.

Clarke added he spent some time with Agar on Friday in the nets and tried to get him to watch some of the Indian spinners in the nets and see what he was learning from what they were doing, adding he is going to be a very good bowler.

Clarke said Agar wants to learn and he wants to get better. Adding you never know what could happen.

The captain added Agar is very lucky now, as he has been given the opportunity to play in this three-day game.

Clarke also claimed Agar was certainly an option for the first Test in Chennai, starting on Feb 22.
