Two of my Dallas Morning News colleagues made a convincing case in Sunday?s paper for the importance of physical therapy.
Yet, the stories could not be more different.
Sarah Mershov tells the compelling comeback story of Lauren Scruggs, the Plano woman who suffered horrific injuries after accidentally walking into a moving airplane propeller. Her recovery is tied closely to her relationship with a hard-driving physical therapist, who is fighting her own survival battle.
Leslie Minora shares the story of Kaitlyn Samuels, a disabled Keller girl who has responded to equine therapy since her parents enrolled her at Rocky Top Therapy in Keller.
The 16-year-old suffers from a brain abnormality, severe scoliosis and physical disabilities, and has not embraced other types of therapy.
Still, her family?s health insurance won?t cover the therapy sessions, because the treatments lack scientific proof of their benefit. Her parents refuse to give up.
