SHERWOOD -- Sherwood has received national recognition for the city's budgeting practices.
The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada awarded the city's finance department with a 'Distinguished Budget Presentation Award.' Sherwood was one of twenty cities in Oregon to receive recognition from the nonprofit, which develops financial policies and best practices for local governments.
In order to receive the award, city staff had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines including a policy document, financial plan, an operations guide and communicating the plan to the public. Budget documents must be rated "proficient" in all four categories.
Sherwood has earned the award annually for the last decade, according to a press release.
"I want to congratulate our entire finance staff for achieving this distinction, but especially Craig Gibons, our finance director and Julie Blums, accounting supervisor," said City Manager Joe Gall in the release.
