Jaipur To Mount Abu From The Pink City To The Hill Resort

Popularly called The Pink City, Jaipur is the capital of the state of Rajasthan. This ancient city located in a semi arid land is the first ever planned city of India. Jaipur was built in accordance to Vastushastra (the ancient Indian science of Architecture), by the ruler of Amber, Maharaja Sawai Jai Singh II in the year 1727. Jaipur offers a marvelous testimonial of Hindu architecture of the past. Built in the form of an eight-part mandala (Pithapada), Jaipur attracts tourists from all over the world. The major attractions in Jaipur include the Hawa Mahal, Amber Fort, Jantar Mantar, Jal Mahal, Seesh Mahal, Jaygarh Fort, Samonde Palace and City Palace among others.

In contrast, Mount Abu, also situated in the state of Rajasthan, is one of the most sought-after hill resorts of India. Located at a height of about 1220 meters above sea level, it is the highest peak in the Aravali Ranges of Rajasthan. Mount Abu was known as Arbudaanchal in the past. It enjoys a preferential status among the other tourist destinations of Rajasthan as it is the solitary Hill Station of the state. According to Historians, Mount Abu was the home of Gurjars. The Gurjar - Mount Abu connection is confirmed by many inscriptions and epitaphs found here. According to Mythology, it was to Mount Abu that the great Sage Vasishta retired, following his differences with Sage Vishwamitra.

The distance from Jaipur to Mount Abu is around 475 km by road. It will take about 7 hours to cover this distance by road. As Mount Abu does not possess any rail head or airport, it is accessible only by road.

Nevertheless, it enjoys direct connectivity to Jaipur via roadways. There are several buses (ordinary, express and deluxe categories) that connect both these places. The bus fares vary according to the type of bus preferred and services offered. Journey by bus is recommended to single travellers or young backpackers.

Udaipur is the nearest airport and Abu road is the railway station that lies near to Mount Abu. There are many trains that connect Abu Road station to Jaipur. On reaching Abu road, one can hire a cab or board a bus to reach Mount Abu. This is the most fitting mode of travel while journeying with family or with elders and kids.

On the other hand, one can hire a taxi from Jaipur to Mount Abu. The fare would be to the upwards of INR ten thousand, depending upon the type of car preferred. This is the best option if one is not bound by any budgetary constraints. For the daring ones, driving from Jaipur to Mount Abu is also an exciting option to explore.
